Halloween in August

Last year at the after Halloween sales, Aunt Sarah and I thought we were being thrifty and smart as we hunted down a gender neutral Halloween costume for Baby Wilt to wear this October. With Sarah's help at the Targets in Texas, we tracked down a baby lobster costume and matching lobster costume for Dexter. Perfect! Knowing that he/she would be 7 months old in October, we bought the 6-9 month costume thinking we'd have extra room if Baby Wilt was a little larger than average. Well, a few weeks ago, I started thinking that the 6-9 month costume may not work since Grant's already wearing 9-12 month clothes. I pulled out the lobster costume from the basement and could barely get it to zip up over Grant! I wanted pictures of our boys in their lobster costumes, so I put Dexter's costume on him too! Below are the pictures from our Halloween celebration in August. Most of the pictures are very similar, but I think they are all adorable and can't decide which ones to leave out of the post.

Yesterday, Grant and I went and found another costume for him to wear for Halloween in October. This time, I bought the 18 month size. (Felt crazy since he's only 5 months old now!) I put it on him this morning, and it's a little long but I think it will be perfect in October! I can't wait! Now to find a matching costume for Dex... ;)

Oatmeal and Veggies

Since around 4 months, Grant has been getting rice cereal every evening. At the end of July, we added oatmeal to our morning routine. Grant LOVES his oatmeal! He likes the rice cereal okay (don't get me wrong, the boy doesn't refuse any food!!), but he gets extra excited for his oatmeal. He immediately started asking for second servings every morning. He's up to probably about 1/2 cup every day.

Sunday before last, August 15, we started veggies. Grant had green beans in the evening mixed with his rice cereal. Although he makes some funny faces, he seems to like it because he opens his mouth and willingly eats it! After about five days of green beans, we started peas. So far, it appears that Grant prefers the peas to the green beans. The past 3 nights he has finished the 3.5oz container with rice cereal mixed in it. In the next few weeks, we have carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes to try before moving onto fruits!

I'm really enjoying feeding him "solids." He makes such funny faces and cute noises, and he gets so excited when I put him in his highchair and velcro on his bib! Over the past month, he's actually become quite a neat eater! He never tries to put his hands in his mouth anymore and hardly any food gets onto his bib. (I'm talking in the last few days...I know he's a mess in some of the pictures below!)

Grant's first few times eating oatmeal. So happy and excited for more!!
First veggie...green beans!

Doesn't seem too sure about it, yet he always asks for more!
I absolutely love this video of Grant eating. It's definitely one of my favorite videos we have of him so far! =)

4 Month Well Baby

We had Grant's 4 month well baby check a little late on August 11th (our pediatrician is very popular!). Grant is very healthy, and he did great with his 2nd round of vaccines.

At his appointment, Grant weighed 19 pounds & 4 ounces which was the 95%tile for his age. He was 27 inches long, so his height was in the 90%tile. His head circumference was 18 inches. It was off the growth chart which means it was ABOVE the 97%tile!! I have an app on my phone that also gives percentiles and it said, according to the World Health Organization, that an 18 inch head at almost 5 months is ABOVE the 99%tile! We knew he had a big head, but I think those numbers even surprised us a bit! The pediatrician just kept saying what a big boy he was! You can check out the percentile chart for head circumference below! :)

Wilt Family Visit and Quincy Trip

The week after Grant's baptism, while Bill and Sharon were still in town, Erica and her now fiancé Adam came to Kansas City. It was fun to have everyone in town! Grant's getting old enough to interact with everyone, so he kept us all entertained. After a few days in KC, we all piled in the cars and headed to Quincy, Illinois to visit Aaron's Grandma Rene and her husband, Roger. We had a nice time in Quincy with wonderful food as always! Erica and Adam came back to Kansas City with us for another day before heading back to West Virginia to start back at medical school.

This one just makes me laugh! Grant's just chillin' with his hat over his face!

Great Grandma Rene bought an adorable outfit for Grant. We were all afraid it wouldn't fit him already, so we tried it on as soon as we got back to KC. The outfit worked but, of course, the hat was too small!

Baptism

We had Grant's baptism on July 25 at our church, Parkville Presbyterian Church. Grandpa and Grandma Wilt made the trip up from Mississippi to see the baptism. Gigi, Grandpapa, and Grandma Mimi were also there. Grant fell asleep during the service, so he slept through the first part of the baptism. Then he woke up, looked like he was going to cry for a second, then just looked around! He didn't make a sound the whole time! =)

Grant Laughing

If these don't work, I'll have Aaron put them on youtube at some point and link them to the blog! It looks like they might show up, but they look really small in the preview. We'll see!

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last updated our blog! One of these days, I'm going to stay caught up with it! I've got some cute videos and lots of fun pictures that I'll be posting tonight and tomorrow hopefully, so check back soon! :)
